Coach Sadiq

Hi Sadiq, care to share a few bio details with us?

Full name: Muhamad Sadiq bin Abdul Rahim. Age: 25. From sunny Singapore.

Sadiq when did you join Borussia and why?

I joined Borussia Academy in Sept 2022 because I decided I wanted to do coaching as a career and impart my knowledge to others. I enjoy the human interaction of working with people and educating others. To see a player doing something that was taught to them or seeing them improve makes me happy!

Sadiq we know you’re an avid player, tell us more about your career as a football player!

My favourite position to play is actually Defensive Central Midfielder. From 2016-2017 I was playing for the Geylang International U21s team. In 2018 I was lucky enough to be chosen to play for the Geylang International Singapore Premier League (First Team). Making my debut for Geylang’s first team in 2018 was a proud moment for myself as I actually started playing for the youth team at 13 years old so to make my first team debut 7 years later was something I definitely dreamed of as a kid but never thought I would achieve. In 2019 and 2022 I played for Balestier United (Semi-pro) and am currently playing for the Singapore Cricket Club (Semi-pro).

As an active player and youth coach what are the qualities you are looking for in young players and how do you motivate our academy players?

Determination - Never give up even when things aren’t going your way

Fearlessness - Not being afraid of the opponents no matter how big or good they are

My personal style of motivating players is by referring to games that happened recently where a comeback happened or a team played really well. Players respond to this as they see it happen on TV so they know it’s achievable and it comes from real life examples.

If you could meet any footballer who would you like to meet and why?

Not sure if he counts as a footballer as he didn’t play pro but it would have to be Jose Mourinho. He was the manager when Chelsea (my favourite team) had their most successful spell & it would be fascinating to pick his brain and talk about football with someone who has had success wherever he’s gone in his career.

Sadiq what’s your favourite Borussia ‘moment’ to date?

It’s actually 2 moments which is the B12s first game of Jan-Apr 2023 season and the B11s first game of this Aug-Dec 2023 season. Both teams drew the game 5-5 and I remember thinking how crazy the game was with goals just flying in. Both teams were actually losing the game and we equalised in the last few minutes. To witness the fighting spirit by the teams was something I really loved.

Thanks so much Sadiq.

We are Borussia!
