Meet our Coaches - Coach Anand

Our Borussia Academy Singapore coaches are highly qualified and love to work with young players of all ages and abilities. Want to get to know them a little better? Introducing our new segment of coach profiles and of course we’re kicking off with our very own football program manager Anand.

Hi Anand, care to share a few bio details with us?

Full name: Anand Muthukumaran. Age: 37. From London (England). My parents are originally from Singapore.

Anand can you list your professional background?

•  Sport and Exercise Science, BSc (Hons) with Honours Degree 

•  Merit in BTEC First in Sport Diploma

•  3 A-Levels which are A2 P.E and Sport Management AVCE 2

•  The F.A Football Level 1 Coaching Cert.

•  The Football Association Singapore Coaching License C

When did you join Borussia and why? 

I joined when it first opened in 2018. Working at a great school and with state of the art facilities I knew something was special at this academy.

What do you like best about working with the Borussia kids?

Being a father myself, I understand the importance of connecting with younger kids. Making sure they have fun and also learning at the same time.

If you could meet any famous footballer who would that be and why?

My favourite player growing up was Zinedine Zidane. He was one of the greatest players ever. Wasn't the highest goal scorer but was very skilful and had the ability to pick out players in the game is why I would like to meet him.

Anand what’s your favourite Borussia ‘moment’?

One of my favourite moments was winning our first JSSL league title with the B9. After a tense play-off final we beat the other team on penalties. From then I knew we had a very special squad. We just won the B10 Div2 league title and now participating in the highest league in Singapore, the PUMA YCL, these boys deserve to be where they are now!

We’re always happy to welcome new players and their families into our fold. Some have just moved to Singapore, some are joining us from other clubs, some have not played before.

To make them feel right at home, we are launching the BorussiaBuddies for new players & parents.

• For the players: a dedicated teammate who will show them the ropes

• For the parents: a parent volunteer who will happily answer questions around being a ‘soccer Mum’ or Dad at Borussia
